A Charles Ashbee for the Guild of Handicraft modernist gem set pepper

For sale is this is radical modernist silver pepper designed by Charles Ashbee for the Guild of Handicraft.  The pepper  is set with green stones which I believe to be chrysoprase or Connemara marble.  The pepper is fully hallmarked to base and lid and appears in Ashbee’s Modern English Silver Work, plate, 15.  Images of this pepper were also published in The Artist, (Vol 33, Jan 1902, Page 17) and  Dekorative Kunst Vol 4, April 1899, Page 14.

Condition is excellent.  The interior of the lid unusually retains the original holding pins.

See item A797 for an unmarked pair of near identical peppers marked for the New York firm of Marcus & Co.

This pepper featured in my recent selling Exhibition in October and associated catalogue of the Guild’s silver
