A Debbie Noble modern small silver bowl

I am delighted to have a collection of modern and contemporary silver for sale by several of Britain’s leading silversmiths.  See items A1317-A1324.  The link between these contemporary silversmiths and my more typical arts and crafts pieces is very close.  Both movements represent artistic workshop design and many of today’s leading silversmiths were trained at institutions whose origins and ethos date to the arts and crafts period.

This is one of two bowls I have for sale by Debbie Noble, the other the larger version at this link.  This is the smaller example.

This bowl dates to 2001 and is a rare and early example of Debbie’s work.  The bowl has been electroformed I believe (not to be confused with electroplated) whereby a mould is placed in a silver solution and through an electro chemical process the silver attaches to the mould.  Once the process is complete, and a thick layer of silver applied, the mould is removed leaving a perfectly formed piece of silver.   The method allows exciting clean lined shapes to be formed. In this instance Debbie has made a bowl with a convex base, that is stable but has movement, and with a subtle pointed end. It is a very beautiful object and good “in the hand”.

Debbie trained at the Royal College of Art (1986-98).  She has lectured in design at Plymouth and Bournemouth Universities and for three years up to 2018 was a full time silversmith.  Latterly she has focussed on a number of entrepreneurial design related businesses from her base in the lake district.
