A gem set silver gilt arts and crafts chalice by Edward Spencer
A silver gilt, gem set chalice in the arts and crafts tradition by Edward Spencer for the Artificers Guild. The piece is unmarked but a water colour of a very similar chalice signed ES for Edward Spencer has recently been discovered in the Artificers Guild archive held at Goldsmiths Hall together with a catalogue photo of the same chalice. Please see images. This chalice has the same distinctive stem as this chalice. The same chalice also appears in an Exhibition catalogue of the Guild at the same archive. The stones are a good colour and overall the chalice is very high quality.
