A rare Kate Harris silver photo frame retailed by Connells of Cheapside
Price: Sold
For sale is this large silver photo frame designed by Kate Harris. The frame is marked for William George Connell, who would have retailed this frame made by William Hutton and Sons. The design is classic Harris art nouveau with long stemmed flowers rising from the base of the frame
The frame is wholly original, with original worn back. Whilst the back of the frame is tired, I have preserved it given that it is still secure, the velvet still a good colour (where not worn) and soft and the stand still allows the frame to sit nicely upright. A nice touch, is that the back retains a classic period heart shaped copper catch. The silver is in excellent condition with just one deepish scratch to the centre right of the frame as you look at it, of no great consequence. The glass is new.
Kate Harris was Hutton’s leading designer c 1898-1904, based in their London studio, and is famous for her distinctive British art nouveau style.
