A rare variant Charles Ashbee for the Guild of Handicraft silver butter dish
Price range: £5-10,000
For sale is this classic, but in fact unusual, Guild of Handicraft silver butter dish. It is an early example hallmarked for 1900. The design unusually includes silver notches around the rim with repousse hearts around the stone setting within the wirework loop handle. The “stone” itself is also unusually a blister pearl.
This is an early piece from the Guild’s time in Essex House, London. Condition is original and very good, the makers mark is quite rubbed but still visible – see images.
