An art nouveau silver and enamel photo frame by William Hutton & Sons

Price: Sold

For sale is this very good and original William Hutton & Sons silver and enamel square photo frame, the design attributed to Kate Allen.  These frames come in a number of sizes and this is the larger size.

The frame is in very good condition with original unrestored enamels in excellent condition. The enamels are a good classic blue green colour, typical for Hutton.  The back of the frame is also original and in excellent condition with just some lifting to the silk cover on the lower back of the strut.  Hallmarks and registration number are still clear and the frame has not been over polished, still retaining its original patina with the finer hammering still visible.

Kate Allen was Hutton’s  other leading designer c 1898-1904, who worked alongside the better known Kate Harris, based at Hutton’s  London studio.  Like Harris, Allen  had her own distinctive arts and crafts style.
