An unusual pair of arts and crafts silver candlesticks

Price: Sold

A pair of Reid & Sons arts & crafts modernist style candlesticks.  These candlesticks are hallmarked for London 1906, and their design is remarkably modern for the period; also showing some of the influence of Charles Ashbee. Reid & Sons is a highly regarded Newcastle jewellers established in 1778 and still trading today under the Mappin & Webb brand. The Reid hallmark overstrikes the actual maker of the candlesticks, most likely a firm like William Hutton & Sons.
