An early Essex House Charles Ashbee silver pendant

Price range: Sold

For sale is this early, very subtle and elegant, Guild of Handicraft silver flower pendant in its original Essex House box. The flower is set with a green chrysoprase and silver drop (possibly a peridot).  Very similar designs by Ashbee can be were published in the Studio volume 18, page 123, November 1899.  I would date this unmarked pendant to around 1896, early in the Guild’s jewellery development.

The pendant is large at 6 cm long and 2.2 cm wide with depth of 1.4 cm to the flower head.  It epitomises Ashbee’s early and important jewellery designs – exhibiting a modernity not seen in other jewellery of this period.

Condition is very good with invisible repairs to one claw and the leaf drop.
