A John Paul Cooper arts and crafts silver rose bowl

Price range: Sold

In the world of arts and craft silver items don’t get much rarer than this. For sale is this complete John Paul Cooper silver rose or flower bowl, with both lid and bowl fully hallmarked for JPC, London 1913. I have never seen a rose or flower bowl by Cooper.

The bowl is engraved with stylized leaf pattern.  The lid is similarly designed with six pointed flowers in the form of a star with thorny stems.

Cooper exhibited a rose bowl at the 1912 Arts Crafts Exhibition Society.  No image exists of that piece but possibly it is this bowl, having been assayed after the exhibition.

The bowl also carries tiny French import marks.  In 1914 Cooper was one of the major contributors to  an  exhibition at the Louvre’s Pavillon de Marsan titled “Arts décoratifs de Grande-Bretagne et d’Irlande”.   I think it likely this bowl was exhibited at that exhibition and it may well have been exhibit 936 (a small rose bowl)- see images

Condition is excellent and original.  The bowl is a good gauge of silver.
