An art deco Limoges enamel Camille Faure small vase
A slight departure from my usual British arts an crafts or 20th century silver – this small vase being French and deco, but I just love this style of enamel. The vase is by Camille Faure, probably the most renowned and collected enameller from Limoges of the 2oth century. This vase epitomises his very best work – geometric modernist, deco, with deep enamels. The thick enamel layers are a difficult technique to accomplish and are specific to Faure’s workshop at this time. The vase dates to c 1925.
Condition is excellent with no visible damage or restoration.
Camille Faure (1874-1956) is credited as a brilliant entrepreneur, who helped revive the fortunes of both his father’s business and Limoges enamels more generally. His firm’s style changed over the years but is most famed for the period c 1925-30 when it made fantastic these art deco style enamel vases. For more information on Faure see the book “Camille Faure” by Alberto Shayo. Several vases similar to this one are illustrated in the book
