A Christopher Dresser sterling silver claret jug
I am delighted to add another sterling silver piece by Christopher Dresser to the Collection. To my mind he is without doubt the father of both modern and commercial design. Pieces that are designed by Dresser in sterling silver are rare.
This jug, the 30cm tall model 2267, is hallmarked for Heath and Middleton (successor firm to Hukin and Heath). London, 1892. An example, identical to the present model, is illustrated in the exhibition catalogue “Christopher Dresser Pioneer of Modern Design”, Gent, 2007, no. 012. Similar examples of 40 cm height can be seen at MOMA, in NY, and the Minneapolis Institute of Fine Art.
Condition is excellent.
