A Christopher Dresser style aesthetic movement brass door knocker
This is not quite my normal thing but I thought a bit of fun and, for the right collector, a perfect and rare piece that could be used on your home. For sale is this brass/bronze door knocker in the style of Christopher Dresser and quite probably designed by Christopher Dresser. I can find no markings on the piece and it does not appear in the books on Dresser so I am cautiously saying “style of”. It is classic Dresser and aesthetic movement design.
The knocker is very similar to marked Archibald Kenrick & Sons (West Bromwich) pieces that I have seen, and I believe they would have been the manufacturer of this knocker. Christopher Dresser is thought to have designed for Kenrick c 1880-1884 (Harry Lyons, Christopher Dresser, The People’s Designer, pages 214-5).
Condition is excellent. The original underplate has surviced which is rare as have all the screw fittings.
