A large arts and crafts silver bowl and plated stand

Price range: Sold

For sale is this very arts and crafts Johnson, Walker and Tolhurst silver hand hammered bowl.  It consists of two pieces, a sterling silver hallmarked bowl and a sliver plated stand.  The bowl is fully assayed for Johnson, Walker & Tolhurst Ltd (Walter Walker & Brownfield Tolhurst) , London 1905. The plated stand carries an unidentified manufacturer’s mark of WJ&S.  The bowl carries the inscription “I have a kind soul that would give you thanks J.A. 1906”.

The design of the bowl is very Oliver Baker and  I suspect he did the design having effectively ceased designing exclusively for Liberty by that date.  The bowl carries the design registration number 469429, for 1906.
