A large Fleetwood Varley framed enamel landscape plaque
For sale is this large Fleetwood Varley enamel plaque depicting a river landscape, the plaque set in its original frame. Signed Varley. The reverse of the plaque states, in what I am sure is original handwriting, “ENAMEL EXECUTED FROM A SKETCH MADE AT THE BOLTON WOODS NEAR ILKLEY YORKSHIRE, BY F.C. VARLEY ”
This enamel was bought as a set of three in the 1970’s (one now lost) and is a”pair” of sorts to the Varley moon lit scene, stock number A561. Both plaques represent the finest work by Varley I have seen. The plaques are not dated but I think are probably from 1900-1910 when Varley was working with the Guild of Handicraft.
