A Liberty & Co silver and enamel vase by Oliver Baker
Price range: £8,500
A rare Liberty Cymric large silver vase with enamel rim to the body, marked for Birmingham, 1901. The design by Oliver Baker, this bowl appears in the first illustrated Liberty Cymric catalogue from around 1900, page 35 (see images). This is one of Baker’s designs initially made independent of Liberty’s Cymric range solely for William Hair Haseler, but which then became part of the early Cymric range. Like most of Liberty’s early works by Oliver Baker, the piece is heavy and a very good gauge of silver.
The provenance of this piece is to Bonhams Los Angeles 29th September, 2009, lot 1106 , at this link. There is some minor restoration to the enamel.
