A pair of Dorrie Nossiter gold, silver and rock crystal earrings
I am really delighted to offer for sale this elegant pair of Dorrie Nossiter earrings. Each earring is set with faceted rock crystals and, in gold and silver, with Nossiter’s classic vine leaf motif.
Arts and crafts earrings are rare generally, and long drop earrings like these even rarer. These are an exceptionally good pair with the rock crystal in excellent condition and very “lively”. The earrings are typically unmarked and are in excellent condition. Note that there are small differences in both the rock crystal and mounts between the two earrings which I am confident are original to manufacture and would not be noticeable when worn.
I am grateful to the website owner at www.dorrienossiter.co,uk for his research into this matter. These earrings have also been identified as being by Sibyl Dunlop by other experts.
Dorrie Nossiter was born in 1893, trained at the Birmingham School of Art and ran her own jewellery shop and workshop in London from c 1930-1960’s. She was part of that later group of arts and crafts women jewellers that included Sibyl Dunlop, Amy Sandheim and Frances Harling (Amy’s sister), and also Bernard Instone (not a woman!).
