A rare and early Liberty & Co “Neb” Cymric silver spoon

Price range: Sold

An early Liberty Cymric spoon, attributed to Archibald Knox. The “Neb” is a very early and beautiful Cymric design dated to London 1899.  it is undoubtedly named by Archibald Knox after the River Neb, one of the largest rivers on the Isle of Man.

The spoon appears in the  illustrated c 1900 Cymric Catalogue page  74, at the then huge price of £1 17 shillings 6d (£1.88, equivalent to about £1,800 in adjusted wage inflation terms)  This may well explain its rarity. It is model 338, page 382 in the Liberty Silver Sketch Book.

The original design drawing for this spoon held at MODA (The Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture), Middlesex University is published in Simon Moore’s book on arts and crafts silver spoons “Artists’ spoons and related table cutlery”, pages 69.
