A rare Archibald Knox Cymric silver and enamelled vase

Price: £12,500

For sale is this extraordinary silver vase by Archibald Knox for Liberty & Co’s Cymric range. The vase is set with a pink purple, marbled, enamel base, the body with ribbed silver and the tripod feet tied together with a Celtic knot of wirework silver.  An example of this model appears in Dr Stephen Martin’s book  “Archibald Knox”, second edition, page 187.

The vase is in excellent original condition

The enamel base to this vase would have been made by Jacob Rapoport, a highly regarded Hungarian enameller who sold his signature marble pinky enamels to both Liberty and Maison Moderne and other art nouveau manufacturers and retailers across Europe c 1900.  Based on surviving examples Knox was asked to make a number of silver designs utilising such enamel, all around c 1900-1901.  These pieces represent some of Knox’s most avant garde and modernist early works.
