A rare Christopher Dresser silver plated geoemtric toast rack for James Dixon
I am delighted to add this exceptional Christopher Dresser silver plated toast rack to the Collection. To my mind Dresser is without doubt the father of both modern and commercial design.
This toast rack is model 66, marked for James Dixon & Sons. Dresser did the original design in around 1880. Michael Whiteway specifically identifies the design to 1879.
This model appears in much of the literature on Dresser including Michael Whiteways “Christopher Dresser a design revolution” P156 and Harry Lyons “Christopher Dresser, The People’s Designer, P 188. The model is held by a number of major museums including MoMA, New York.
Condition is original and very good. There are some minor areas of rubbing to the plate on some of the higher points. Presents beautifully.
