A rare Elkington silver gilt and enamel Victorian beaker
Price range: Sold
For sale is this rare and unusual silver gilt and enamel beaker by Elkingt0n, London 1875. A beautiful piece in excellent and original condition, it is also interesting for its design. No doubt influenced by the Japanese led aesthetic movement, the floral design is art nouveau in style. Champleve enamel, as seen on this piece, was rarely seen in British silver at this time, typically only on major Exhibition pieces by Elkington c 1865-1880. It seems Elkington briefly produced this combination of floral enamel on gilding around 1875, other pieces are known. This drinking vessel is by far the most impressive piece I have seen of this genre. It is a good gauge.
