A rare Wiener Werkstatte enamel plaque
Price: £1,450
A rare Wiener Werkstatte enamel on silver plate. The enamel is advertising the Wiener Werkstatte shop in Luzern (Lucerne), Switzerland, which was open from 1922 until c 1929. I am certain this is an orignal piece not a later copy. Quite how it woould have been used is unclear to me but very similar advertisng plaques were made by the Wiener Werkstatte for Kabarett Fledermaus, designed by Josef Diveky.
The plaque is in excellent original condition. Under magnificaton you can see some deterioration to the outside band of blue enamel – this is due to the (safe) use of Cobalt and Uranium in c 1900 in glass enamel to createa vibrant blue and which deteriorates slowly over time. It is evidence of originality.
