A rare wood and enamel clock by Charles Ashbee for the Guild of Handicraft

For sale is this exceptional and rare Guild of Handicraft clock designed by Charles Ashbee.  The clock is architectural in design in the manner of Charles Voysey, with Voysey or Glasgow School style swallows surrounding the clock face.  The face itself, set behind glass, is enamel on copper.  Whilst Ashbee has clearly been influenced by other arts and crafts designers, the style of the clock is very similar to the few others known by him, with its triangular form, ball feet and “roof” top.

A photo of this exact clock appears in Der modern Stil (by Julius Hoffmann), a German publication, page 223 (of 2016 consolidated reprint), originally published 1905.  See images.  The translation to the page is:

“Designed and executed under the direction of C.R. Ashbee of the Guild of Handicraft , Campden (England). Fig 2. Oak grandfather clocks with carvings, metal inlays, and enamel.”

The clock is in excellent original condition. The movement has been serviced and is working well.
