A silver beaker by Charles Ashbee for the Guild of Handicraft
Price range: Sold
For sale is this wonderful Guild of Handicraft silver beaker set with garnets. The stylized tree pattern and stones are repeated six times around the body of the beaker. The piece epitomises what is great about Ashbee’s work, clearly historicist in inspiration it nevertheless feels modern and has that indefinable quality of “soul” that Ashbee always looked looked for in a great piece of silver.
Fully hallmarked for 1901. The beaker is a good size and is very nice “in the hand”. Condition is excellent. A similar pattern to the one on this beaker can be seen on pieces in Ashbee’s Modern English Silver, plates 47, 48 and 90.
