A single Japanese silver and enamel butterfly spoon
For sale is this lovely Meiji period Japanese silver and enamel coffee sized spoon. The spoon bowl decorated with enamel leaves flowers (anemones I think) and the stem with two applied and enamelled butterflies.
The spoon is marked but I have not been able to identify the maker – see images. It carries all the characteristics of the renowned Japanese maker Sanju Saku and the maker may be a retailers mark. The spoon is in excellent original condition.
Sanju Saku was one of Japan’s leading silversmiths, based in Yokahama, making and retailing silver with enamels to this style c 1880-1920.
