An Archibald Knox Cymric silver clock for Liberty & Co

Price range:  £8,500

For sale is this silver Liberty & Co Cymric silver clock, designed by Archibald Knox.   The shape of this clock appears to be inspired by the local Isle of Man runic stones and the front is ornamented with an early Knox organic leaf design that can be found in the Silver Studio Archive designs.  It is model number 907 in the Liberty sketch book and appears in Dr Stephen Martin’s book, Archibald Knox, on page 239.  The clock design dates to around 1901, and this clock is hallmarked for 1911.

The enamel face is in excellent original condition and is a strong vibrant blue green. The clock retains its original silver hands but at some point in the past the original movement would appear to have been replaced with a thinner mechanical movement, atypical at least of Liberty’s normal choice. The movement is in excellent working condition and the clock will keep perfect time for at least four days on a single wind (I do not wish to overwind it – it may run for 8 days).  There are some tiny bruises to the clock case that do not detract from its appearance. It is a  fine example.
