An Archibald Knox Cymric silver pen tray
Price range: Sold
For sale is this excellent large silver pen tray for Liberty & Co, Birmingham, 1902. The design undoubtedly by Archibald Knox with enamelled Celtic knot design all around the tray. It is a lovely weighty and practical piece that combines classic Knox Celtic entrelac in a very modern design. It is hard to believe it was made in 1902.
Condition is excellent with a very well made replacement glass liner. The enamel is original and in excellent order. There is some “broken fire” surrounding the enamels where the silver has a slightly different tone to the rest of the piece. This will be original to manufacture. Marks are crisp.
This tray will appear in Dr Stephen Martin’s forthcoming third edition of his book “Archibald Knox”.
