An Artificers Guild silver sauce boat

Price range: Sold

A lovely silver sauce boat by the Artificers Guild,  almost certainly designed by Edward Spencer. The boat has a well cast applied frieze of stylized interwoven leaves and flowers with further classic Guild geometric engraving to the base. The interior is softly gilded.  It is a pair to the bowl in A657.  In excellent condition and a very good gauge of silver.

The Artificers Guild was originally established by Nelson Dawson along similar lines to Charles Ashbee’s Guild of Handicrafts but quickly changed ownership and from 1902 it’s chief designer became Edward Spencer who took over the firm as a limited company in 1909.
