An arts and crafts copper and enamel mantel clock

Price: Sold

For sale is this large arts and crafts copper and enamel mantel clock.   This design is typically attributed to George Walton of Glasgow.  The clock is marked for Goodyers who were a similar and contemporary retailer to Liberty also located at Regent Street, known as The Aesthetic Gallery, specialising in Arts & Crafts items such as metal wares, silks and furnishings from 1889 until 1947.

Irrespective of the clock’s attribution, it is a classic arts and crafts design.  The patina is good, the “lid” with dark chocolate colour, the front with similar patina though slightly more polished and untouched tarnished steel legs.  The enamels are original and are a dark blue and have a lovely play of peacock colours.

The movement is period and I am sure original to the clock. The clock is with a key, working and keeping excellent time with a very audible tick!  It runs without winding for at least four days, possibly up to eight days.

The clock overall is in excellent working condition and presents very well.
