An unusual pair of classic James Dixon arts and crafts silver candlesticks

Price  £2,750

For sale is this classic  pair of James Dixon & Sons arts and crafts candlesticks with an unusual twist.  Both base and sconce are decorated with a “fish scale” pattern.  The unornamented design is attributable to the leading Dutch Amsterdam design school of the period  from c. 1902 and copied by the Sheffield firm of James Dixon.  These candlesticks are from 1909.  The “scales” are possibly inspired by designs from John Paul Cooper and the effect is to create a good play of light.

They are in good condition with clear marks (one date mark rubbed) and well defined faux rivets and removable sconces with matching hallmarks.  Some of the rivets are worn with small holes at the high points.  See images.
