Artificers Guild bowl

Price range: Sold

A lovely silver bowl by Edward Spencer for the Artificers Guild. The design appears to be based on an Elizabethan method of “stitching” silver panels together to make a bowl. The design drawing for this bowl appears in the Goldsmiths Hall archive of Edward Spencer and the Artficers Guild work.

The Artificers Guild was originally established by Nelson Dawson along similar lines to Charles Ashbee’s Guild of Handicrafts but quickly changed ownership and from 1902 it’s chief designer became Edward Spencer who took over the firm as a limited company in 1909.
